Commuters Demand Action on Traffic Chaos Before Swargate Metro Launch

10 Sep 2024

Commuters and autorickshaw drivers are urging Maha Metro, PMPML, and PMC authorities to develop a proper plan to prevent traffic chaos at Jedhe Chowk ahead of the Swargate underground Metro station's opening. Concerns have arisen about increased footfall in the area post-opening, with complaints about lack of coordination between PMPML, MSRTC, and auto rickshaw services. The station, part of a multimodal hub at Jedhe Chowk, will have several entry-exit points, with one on Satara Road operational immediately. However, issues like unauthorised stalls, haphazard auto rickshaw parking, and traffic congestion are already affecting the area. Plans include shifting PMPML bus stops and constructing road links to reduce congestion. Commuters are also calling for a subway to connect the Metro station to the MSRTC bus terminus. The Metro's Swargate stretch, including Mandai and Kasba Peth stations, is expected to open soon, with officials promising timely completion.
