Better Planning Needed to Avoid Overlap of Flyover and Metro Projects

22 Sep 2025

The state’s deputy chief minister has directed Maha Metro, NHAI, MSIDC, and other agencies to work in sync while implementing major projects like elevated highways and Metro routes, ensuring that no infrastructure works overlap. Authorities have been asked to prepare a detailed plan within a week, which will later be discussed with the chief minister and local representatives. To avoid duplication, a double-decker design accommodating both flyovers and Metro lines is being considered on key stretches, including Ramwadi–Wagholi. Updates were also shared on upcoming Metro routes such as Hadapsar–Uruli Kanchan, Hadapsar–Saswad, and the 42 km Nigdi–Chakan corridor, where alignment changes are under review.

In Pimpri Chinchwad, the deputy chief minister also reviewed the condition of Haffkine Biopharmaceuticals Institute, which has been struggling with financial and infrastructure issues. It was assured that the institute will be provided Rs 150 crore in funds from the state budget to improve staff quarters and facilities, instead of pursuing commercial development.
