Residents Alarmed as Yellow Tap Water, Stomach Illnesses Raise Concerns in Pimpri Chinchwad

05 Jun 2025

Residents in several parts of Pimpri Chinchwad including Wakad, Ravet, Punawale, and Tathwade have raised serious concerns after receiving yellow-coloured, foul-smelling water from the civic supply lines. Many residents have reported stomach discomfort, with some even needing medical attention. In Wakad’s Eden Tower Housing Society, a resident shared a video showing worms in the tap water. Similar complaints poured in from other housing societies like Nandan Inspera, Nano Homes, and Kohinoor Saphire, where residents noticed a rise in TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels, unusual taste, and an unpleasant odour. Residents of Yashone Infinitee in Punawale reported TDS levels doubling from the usual 100 to over 200, along with a visible yellow tint in the water.

While the civic administration claimed the supply lines are functioning properly, they acknowledged that isolated local issues might be responsible and said field teams are attending to complaints promptly. PCMC's water supply department linked the issue to increased turbidity in dam water due to early monsoon rains, which could affect taste and colour but insisted the water remains safe to drink. Despite these assurances, residents continue to worry about the quality and safety of their daily water supply, demanding a more thorough investigation and timely resolution.
