Residents of Gharpure Colony in Shivajinagar have been facing frequent power outages since work on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 began nearly three years ago. The latest power failure lasted close to 18 hours, affecting around 250 electricity consumers across 14 buildings. More than half of the residents are senior citizens, making prolonged outages especially difficult due to non functioning lifts, lack of water supply, and limited mobility during medical emergencies.
According to MSEDCL officials, the outage occurred after a feeder cable supplying three major transformers was damaged during metro construction activity. Residents said such incidents have become routine, with cables often snapping during night time digging and repairs starting only after complaints are lodged. MSEDCL has restored power but acknowledged poor coordination with metro contractors, stating that fault detection is still done manually and repairs can take several hours once damage occurs
