PCMC Begins Road Development to Address Traffic and Infrastructure Issues in Merged Areas

11 Dec 2024

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has begun constructing nine roads in merged areas such as Punawale, Wakad, Kiwale, Ravet, and Tathawade as part of its development plan. Approved before the state’s model code of conduct was implemented, these new roads aim to improve the road network in these areas by over 75%, reducing traffic congestion caused by narrow and poorly maintained roads. Many IT professionals living in these areas have raised concerns over road conditions, with issues like potholes and waterlogging worsening during the monsoon. The new roads will address these problems by incorporating stormwater and drainage lines to prevent waterlogging.

Local residents and civic groups have emphasized the need for additional safety measures and proper connectivity. The president of the Ravet Kiwale Foundation highlighted the frequent accidents in her area due to the lack of speed breakers, urging PCMC to include them in the new road infrastructure. The city engineer stated that the existing road network lacks sufficient width, stormwater systems, and drainage lines, as they were not constructed according to the development plan. However, the new roads are designed to resolve these issues comprehensively, ensuring better connectivity and safer infrastructure for the growing population.
