PMC Cracks Down on Pre-Monsoon Road Works, Demands Swift Completion

17 May 2025

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a halt on all new road digging permissions in the city ahead of the monsoon season, with Thursday marking the final day for sanctioned work. Agencies such as MSEDCL and MNGL have been instructed to expedite and complete ongoing infrastructure projects within two weeks to minimize disruption for commuters during the rains. The road department has also begun reinstatement of dug-up roads, a process expected to continue for the next two to three weeks. Moving forward, only emergency or essential work will be considered for fresh digging, requiring special approval from PMC.

Local residents have raised concerns about incomplete work at locations like Mitramandal Chowk, Aranyeshwar, and Sahakarnagar, urging for swift action before heavy rains begin. Meanwhile, city MP convened a meeting with PMC officials on Friday to review the status of pre-monsoon civic preparations. He emphasized the need to fix accountability for tasks such as cleaning stormwater drains, nullahs, and addressing chronic flood-prone areas. also directed officials to document the progress through photos and videos to ensure transparency and contractor accountability.
