No More Registrations for Blue Floodline Constructions in PCMC

28 Sep 2025

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has urged the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) department to halt the registration of unauthorised structures in the blue floodline zone along rivers like Indrayani, Mula, and Pavana. Civic officials clarified that the directive applies only to completed unauthorised constructions, not vacant plots, since land transactions cannot be restricted. Over 1,600 illegal structures have been identified, with PCMC warning that unsuspecting buyers often fall prey to cheaper rates, only to face demolition risks later.

Officials said notices were issued and demolition drives have already been carried out, while a GIS mapping-based online platform is being developed to help citizens check whether a property falls within a floodline zone. However, activists have slammed the move as an eyewash, alleging that permissions for projects within floodline zones were earlier granted by the PCMC and irrigation department themselves. They argued that when the civic body is executing riverfront development projects in floodline areas, blaming citizens for illegal structures is unjustified.
