PMRDA Clears Baner Ramp Safety Concerns Directs Contractor to Fix Finishing Work at University Chowk

11 Mar 2026

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has officially dismissed concerns regarding structural defects on the newly inaugurated Baner ramp of the integrated double-decker flyover at University Chowk. The clarification follows a formal request for an inspection by a PMC corporator, who cited social media images of an apparently improperly sealed joint as a potential safety risk. PMRDA officials and the concessionaire, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd (PITCMRL), clarified that the visible gap is merely related to the finishing and painting of the outer crash barrier and does not impact the core structural integrity or the post-tensioning cable system of the prestressed segmental structure.

To ensure long-term durability and public confidence, the PMRDA has directed the concessionaire to rectify the external cosmetic issues and complete all pending finishing work immediately. Furthermore, the authorities have mandated the installation of clear directional signage for commuters within an eight-day window. While the PMRDA maintains that rigorous technical inspections were conducted prior to the public opening, the administration is focusing on high-quality finishing to prevent any further apprehension among the thousands of daily commuters using this critical link between Shivajinagar and the western suburbs
