Just two months after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) completed major drainage work on Apte Road, commuters are already grappling with poorly executed road reinstatement. The concrete patches laid over the dug-up sections have become uneven, with gaps forming that resemble potholes. Regular users say the mismatch between the new concrete and the existing tar road has created a bumpy, unsafe ride especially alarming as early rains have already started causing water to accumulate at multiple spots. Many fear the condition will only worsen once the full monsoon sets in.
The stretch between Deccan Gymkhana and HDFC Bank chowk, which saw the pipe upgrades, has also witnessed a rise in vehicular movement due to growing commercial activity. Commuters argue that the PMC’s quick-fix solutions are not only substandard but widespread across the city. “It’s the same story elsewhere concrete patches don’t hold up, and roads are worse off than before,” one said. PMC officials responded by saying inspections will be carried out and necessary repairs will be initiated in the coming days, including fixes to chambers and additional road surface work.
