The city traffic police department is taking decisive action to alleviate traffic congestion on the 1.2km stretch of Ahmednagar highway near Wagheshwar temple in Wagholi. Recognizing haphazard parking as a significant contributor to slow-moving traffic and long queues during peak hours, the department has proposed a no parking regulation for both sides of the road. Collaborating with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the authorities are working on implementing this no parking rule on a trial basis, with plans to install necessary signboards and markings to enforce it. In addition to tackling parking issues, commuters have also raised concerns about regulating private luxury buses and controlling the movement of heavy vehicles like trucks and dumpers. A recent meeting with the district guardian minister has resulted in decisions to designate specific areas for private bus halts and consider an alternative road parallel to the highway. Residents are hopeful that these measures, along with increased traffic police presence at key spots, will lead to a smoother and more efficient traffic flow, addressing their frustrations with ongoing traffic congestion in the area.
