A committee led by the Pune divisional commissioner has recommended the construction of a solid concrete wall on all three sides of the foot overbridge connecting the Metro station as part of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line, addressing safety and security concerns surrounding Raj Bhavan. After considering six options, the committee submitted its final report to the governor's office last week, proposing this solution to ensure adequate safety while avoiding additional financial burden on the government. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), tasked with implementing the Hinjewadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro line, had sought the transfer of land from Raj Bhavan for the station two years ago, which faced delays due to security concerns.
Appointed by the governor, the committee, comprising officials including the Pune collector and police commissioner, assessed various design alternatives. Their recommendation of an elevated foot overbridge with solid concrete walls garnered approval for its feasibility within the timeline and without incurring extra costs. With the report submitted, the final land transfer is anticipated to expedite the progress of the Metro station construction, with the entire Hinjewadi Shivaji Nagar Metro line expected to be completed by November, slated for public use from April 2025.
