The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earmarked ₹1,626 crore for road development in its 2025-26 draft budget, marking a ₹400 crore increase from last year. The move aims to tackle worsening traffic congestion and deteriorating road conditions, especially with civic elections approaching. Officials stated that road infrastructure remains a top priority, with funds allocated for completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones. A special focus will be on addressing missing-link roads, with ₹15 crore set aside for 30 such projects and ₹33 crore dedicated to land acquisition. Despite these efforts, residents have expressed frustration over slow progress on Development Plan (DP) roads, particularly in newly merged areas where population growth has outpaced infrastructure expansion.
In addition to roadworks, PMC has allocated ₹279 crore for transport planning and ₹1,431 crore for sewage infrastructure. Key projects include culvert construction, widening Ganeshkhind Road, and underpass development in Mundhwa and Kharadi. Plans are also in place for a hot-mix material plant to improve road quality. Meanwhile, PMC aims to upgrade old sewage lines under a master sewage plan while extending services to merged areas. Residents remain skeptical, emphasizing the need for better execution and timely completion of projects, as poor roads and sewage issues continue to impact daily life.
