MahaRERA has directed the Pune collector to expedite the execution of long-pending warrant orders against defaulting developers, aiming to recover ₹177.4 crore across 212 cases linked to 103 real estate projects. The delays, primarily attributed to last year’s elections, have hindered homebuyers from receiving their rightful compensation. To address this backlog, MahaRERA has urged authorities to prioritize action against major defaulters, which could help recover at least 50% of the pending dues. Additionally, a retired senior revenue department official has been appointed to oversee follow-ups with district collectors, deputy collectors, and tehsildars to ensure faster implementation.
To further streamline the process, MahaRERA has begun appointing retired tehsildars on a pilot basis in high-pending districts like Mumbai suburban and Pune. If successful, this model could be extended to other districts where over ₹771 crore remains unrecovered in more than 1,000 cases statewide. However, experts have pointed out that these retired officials may require statutory powers through a formal gazette notification to secure police assistance and enforce recoveries effectively. Meanwhile, the Pune collector has assured that necessary steps will be taken to comply with MahaRERA’s directives, aiming to provide financial relief to affected homebuyers.
