The construction of the 4.5 km elevated Nigdi Metro line under Maha Metro has reached the halfway mark within the PCMC limits. The project, which began in August 2024, includes four stations — Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti Chowk — and is expected to be completed by December 2026. Originally planned for 36 months, Maha Metro aims to finish the project in just 30 months due to smooth progress and no major land issues. Officials confirmed that over 50% of the pillars are ready, and segment installation between Pimpri and Chinchwad is underway.
The Nigdi extension will directly connect Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, a long-standing demand of residents who say it should have been part of Phase 1 itself. Maha Metro has also begun repairing service roads and filling potholes along the Chinchwad stretch after commuters complained about poor road conditions. Once complete, this metro line will ease congestion on the old Pune–Mumbai highway and significantly improve daily connectivity for thousands of commuters across PCMC.
