Concerns over inflated bids in Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) ₹158-crore solid waste management tenders have prompted the state government to step in. During a recent session in the state assembly, BJP MLA raised questions about the tendering process, alleging that the quoted amounts were five to seven percent higher than PMC’s estimated costs. In response, the Minister of State for Urban Development assured the assembly that a detailed inquiry would be carried out to investigate potential irregularities in the bidding process.
The civic body had floated tenders for road cleaning and waste management projects two months ago but later cancelled them due to the high bids. Questions were also raised about the expenses already incurred during the tendering process. The minister clarified that the state government has not only asked PMC to investigate the matter thoroughly but also to recover any unwarranted expenses from those found responsible, if necessary. This move comes amid growing calls for accountability and transparency in civic spending.
