Bhide Bridge Reopens Temporarily to Ease Diwali Traffic Rush in Pune

10 Oct 2025

The Baba Bhide Bridge in Pune will reopen for vehicles from 6 am to 11 pm starting Saturday to ease traffic during the Diwali rush in the Peth and Deccan Gymkhana areas. The decision was taken after a joint meeting between Maha Metro and traffic officials, who agreed to temporarily allow vehicles while continuing Metro construction work at night. Contractors have been instructed to clear machinery from the bridge during the day to make space for commuters. A similar arrangement was earlier implemented during Ganeshotsav, which helped manage heavy traffic smoothly.

Commuters and local residents had been demanding the reopening of the bridge, which has remained closed for over six months due to ongoing work on the cable-stayed bridge near Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station. The closure had forced motorists to use alternate routes like the Sambhaji Bridge and Z-Bridge, causing heavy congestion during peak hours. Maha Metro officials said that the new bridge work is expected to be completed by December, which will improve access to Deccan Gymkhana Metro station and ease overall traffic movement in the area.
