Civic Apathy Delays Pune Warje Road Project

08 Aug 2025

Frustration is mounting in Warje as the long-stalled construction of the 600-metre DP road between Warje Jakat Naka and Tirupati Nagar continues to disrupt daily life. Despite being sanctioned back in 2017 with a ₹5 crore budget, the project has once again come to a halt this time due to the exhaustion of the sanctioned tender amount. For over 15 days, the road has remained incomplete, leaving residents to deal with illegal parking, hawkers, and makeshift tempo stands that have turned the stretch into a chaotic and unsafe zone. Locals are not just struggling with daily commute issues but are also growing increasingly disillusioned with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), accusing it of neglecting essential infrastructure while boasting about citywide development.

According to civic engineers, the delay is not just financial but also administrative, with different departments blaming each other for pending work. Clearance of three large trees, a half-demolished MSEB structure, and unresolved encroachments are among the issues stuck in inter-departmental red tape. With the monsoon intensifying, residents are now worried about waterlogging and safety hazards. Many have called for direct intervention from the Municipal Commissioner and are threatening to launch protests if work doesn't resume soon. As Warje continues to urbanize rapidly, citizens are demanding not just completed roads, but a governance model that values transparency, timely action, and cross-departmental coordination.
