PMC to Spend ₹15 Crore on Pre-Monsoon Road Repairs Using Micro-Surfacing Tech

21 Apr 2025

To ensure smoother roads during the upcoming monsoon, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will spend ₹15 crore on preventive maintenance using advanced micro-surfacing technology. The work will cover nearly 50 km of roads across the city, with an estimated area of 3.8 lakh square meters. The project is split between two zones — East and West — with ₹7.5 crore allocated to each. The PMC’s Road Department, which will float tenders soon, said this initiative is aimed at addressing the surge in road complaints typically seen post-monsoon.

Micro-surfacing, previously tested on Senapati Bapat Road under the ‘Mission 17’ initiative, showed promising results, keeping roads intact for three to four years without potholes. Officials said the technology significantly reduces wear and tear, lowers long-term maintenance costs, and is ideal for pre-monsoon upkeep. The civic body plans to begin the work in the coming weeks, aiming to complete resurfacing on key roads before the rainy season to ensure minimal disruption and better driving conditions for citizens.
