Pune MSEDCL Sees ₹5,137 Crore Revenue Surge Amid New Connections, Solar Push

09 Apr 2025

The Pune zone of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) witnessed a revenue surge of Rs5,137 crore over the last two financial years, with earnings rising from Rs16,143 crore in 2022-23 to Rs21,280 crore in 2024-25. This growth was largely driven by rapid real estate development, resulting in over 4 lakh new electricity connections and bringing the total number of consumers in the zone to 39.2 lakh the highest in the state. Improved bill collection efforts also helped reduce outstanding dues from Rs124 crore to Rs69 crore, while power theft worth Rs62.4 crore was detected and curbed during this period.

Alongside revenue gains, the Pune zone also made significant strides in solar energy adoption. Rooftop solar capacity in the region nearly doubled in two years, jumping from 249MW across 9,977 consumers to 474MW among 28,604 consumers. This now accounts for 15% of Maharashtra’s total installed rooftop solar capacity. MSEDCL also focused on improving billing accuracy, with a 0.7% rise in accurate meter readings and a 0.9% reduction in the average bill amount, supported by regular reviews with meter reading agencies and engineering teams.
