A high-level committee’s recommendation to reduce the number of required documents for deemed conveyance from ten to seven has been awaiting state government approval for over a year. The proposal was submitted in October 2023, but due to the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, it has not yet been considered. Officials from the cooperation department are now actively following up with the state government to expedite the approval, as the move is expected to help housing societies secure land ownership more easily.
According to the state cooperation department, nearly 62% of registered housing societies in Maharashtra lack land ownership. Out of 1.25 lakh cooperative housing societies, only 47,700 have obtained conveyance, while 78,116 remain without it. The final decision on the proposal requires coordination between the state’s housing and cooperation departments. Officials have stated that the proposal will soon be placed before the state government for further discussion, with hopes for a timely resolution. Housing society members have urged the government to speed up the process to benefit more societies.
