US electric vehicle giant Tesla's plans for entry into the Indian market have taken a significant step forward as its India arm, Tesla India Motor & Energy, has secured office space spanning 5,850 sq ft in Pune's Viman Nagar locality. The leased coworking centre, located in Panchshil Business Park, will serve as a base of operations for the company, with the lease set to span a total of five years, commencing on October 1. Notably, Tesla retains the option to extend the lease for an additional five years, showcasing its potential commitment for a decade. This move comes in the midst of Tesla's discussions with the Indian government about establishing an electric vehicle manufacturing factory within the country. Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, has indicated a more positive stance on Indian manufacturing after previously citing high levies as a deterrent. Tesla's interest in India's automotive industry and its desire to tap into the country's robust supply chain underscore its determination to become a significant player in the Indian EV market, characterised by evolving policies and demands for sustainable transportation solutions.
