The city's traffic police are set to implement revised one-way and traffic diversion schemes in Koregaon Park and Mangaldas Road areas starting Saturday to accommodate the demolition of the two-lane Sadhu Vaswani rail overbridge and facilitate the construction of a four-lane structure. Under the new plan, one-way traffic flow on the bridge from Circuit House Chowk towards Blue Diamond Chowk will be suspended, redirecting vehicles via War Memorial Chowk towards Council Hall Road and Bund Garden Road to access Koregaon Park.
This marks the second phase of traffic diversions, with a complete halt to traffic on the bridge. Vehicles will follow diverted routes, guided by newly implemented one-ways on key stretches. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) aims to demolish the existing bridge to address increasing traffic demands, with traffic police and PMC collaborating on diversion plans for over a month. Concerns over traffic congestion have prompted discussions between officials and residents, leading to the introduction of direction boards and additional manpower deployment to assist motorists on the diverted routes, ensuring smoother traffic flow during the transition period.
