The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved the draft of its revised Development Plan (DP), which for the first time covers all areas within the civic limits, including those merged after the city’s initial formation. Spanning 173.24 sq km, the draft plan addresses the city’s projected population growth from 17 lakh in 2011 to 42.4 lakh by 2031 and 61 lakh by 2041 and includes infrastructure provisions such as 18m-wide roads in new areas, land reservations for EV charging stations, Pune Metro parking, a truck terminus, intercity bus stand, and space for Wari processions. This DP, prepared by a private Ahmedabad-based firm using GIS technology, uses 2021 as the base year and will remain valid for 20 years.
The revised plan also integrates areas previously under the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA), which merged with PCMC in 2021. Civic chief emphasized that the plan prioritizes roads, drainage, water supply, and green spaces, with special attention to rapidly developing merged villages. Citizens will have 60 days to submit feedback, which will be reviewed by a seven-member committee before the final DP is forwarded to the state government for approval. The current DP expires on May 18, making this revised draft crucial for guiding the city’s urban development over the next two decades.
