Commuters in Pune are facing a bumpy ride as several roads, hastily repaired after drainage pipeline work by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), have started deteriorating under the ongoing monsoon rains. Residents using BMCC Road say the stretch from Law College Road junction to BMCC was dug up and poorly patched, making it unsafe and uncomfortable for travel. On Lakaki Road near Deep Bungalow Chowk, large gaps have formed in the cemented patchwork, creating daily challenges for drivers and bikers alike.
Citizens and civic groups blame substandard materials and rushed work for the current state of disrepair. Activists from Manch highlighted how poor road reinstatement has become a yearly monsoon issue, now worsened by early rains. They’re demanding third-party audits of all recently repaired roads. Meanwhile, PMC has told contractors to continuously maintain the roads until the end of the rainy season, warning them of action for delays. Civic engineers have been asked to inspect affected stretches to ensure timely repairs and accountability.
