Katraj-Kondhwa Road Widening Gains Momentum as Land Acquisition Accelerates

08 Dec 2024

The long-standing issue of widening the congested Katraj-Kondhwa road is finally seeing progress as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) accelerates the land acquisition process. Persistent traffic bottlenecks on this crucial stretch have caused daily frustration for commuters and residents alike. Seven landowners have expressed their willingness to provide land for the project, and the PMC plans to expedite possession after necessary evaluations. To further ease congestion, a flyover has also been prioritized for construction. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has assured financial and technical assistance, contingent on the PMC completing the land acquisition.

Originally approved in 2018, the project faced delays due to acquisition challenges. However, ongoing work between Rajas Society and Khadi Machine Chowk, including grade separators and road expansion, has picked up pace. To simplify and speed up approvals, the PMC is set to introduce a single-window scheme for land acquisition. Once completed, the widened road and flyover are expected to significantly improve traffic flow, providing much-needed relief for daily commuters and boosting connectivity in the region.
