Two Hadapsar Flyovers Likely to Be Demolished for 40 km Multilevel Corridor

22 Feb 2026

After the demolition of the flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, two more flyovers at Hadapsar Gadital and Magarpatta Chowk are likely to be demolished as part of a proposed 40 km multilevel corridor between Bhairoba Nullah and Yavat on the Solapur highway. Consultants working on the project have recommended removing the existing structures, stating that retaining them would make construction technically unfeasible. The corridor is being planned along with an elevated Metro alignment, requiring uninterrupted right of way for a six-lane multilevel flyover.

Officials from Pune Municipal Corporation said the project is a Central government initiative and will be executed by the National Highways Authority of India. They added that integrated Metro and flyover corridors have already been implemented at locations such as University Chowk and Nal Stop in Pune. While the demolition of the relatively new Magarpatta flyover has raised concerns, experts and civic officials maintain that the long-term traffic relief expected along the Solapur Highway outweighs short-term disruption. The project has reached the tendering stage, and construction activity is expected to begin once formal approvals are completed
