The city of Pune faced a seven-hour traffic ordeal on Saturday when a trailer transporting a Metro girder overturned on Aundh Road near Raj Bhawan around 5:30 am. The incident caused major disruptions on key roads such as Ganeshkhind Road, Senapati Bapat Road, internal roads of Model Colony, COEP Chowk, JM Road, and FC Road. The efforts to clear the girder and restore normal traffic flow took until 2 pm, with cranes deployed by police and Metro officials for the task.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) reported that the trailer driver attempting a U-turn in front of Raj Bhawan caused the accident, resulting in the girder blocking vehicular movement towards University junction and Aundh. Traffic diversions were implemented, allowing only two-wheelers on Aundh Road until the girder was successfully moved. The congestion and disruptions had a ripple effect, causing snail-paced traffic towards Baner and Aundh, leading to jams on Senapati Bapat Road, JM Road, and FC Road.
