MahaRERA Conciliation Forums Resolve 1,749 Disputes Across Maharashtra

23 Oct 2024

MahaRERA announced on October 21 that the conciliation forums, established in 2018 to resolve disputes between homebuyers and real estate developers, have successfully settled 1,749 complaints across Maharashtra. These forums aim to amicably resolve conflicts through the involvement of consumers or promoters' associations, with a 32.36% success rate in providing timely justice. The initiative's popularity has led to the establishment of similar forums in other states such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. Currently, 533 grievances are being heard across 52 forums in Maharashtra.

Initially operating only in Mumbai and Pune, the forums have expanded statewide due to their success. The Mumbai forum has resolved 562 complaints, while Pune has addressed 530 cases. Other regions include Thane (201 complaints resolved), Navi Mumbai (169), Palghar (105), Kalyan (73), Vasai (71), Nagpur (13), Mira Road (9), Raigad (8), and Nashik (8). The conciliation process, under Section 32 (g) of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, is seen as an effective mechanism for settling disputes with a reported success rate between 35% and 50%.
