The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has taken a significant step towards expediting the construction of the inner ring road project by submitting a land acquisition proposal to district collector Rajesh Deshmukh. The state government recently decided to waive the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) stage for this public infrastructure project, a move that is expected to accelerate its progress. PMRDA has submitted the proposal for land acquisition in the first phase, which will encompass the villages of Solu (13.17 hectares), Nirgudi (9.32 hectares), and Wadgaon Shinde (5.71 hectares). The acquisition will be carried out through direct purchase or the compulsory Land Acquisition Act, bypassing the mandatory SIA process, based on the project's importance and immediate need as determined by the state.
The inner ring road, spanning 83 kilometers, is part of the state government's plan to alleviate congestion on inner city roads caused by heavy vehicles. This ambitious project will require the acquisition of approximately 720 hectares of land across 44 villages in Khed, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval talukas in Pune district. The first phase of construction will focus on a 4.8-kilometer stretch from Solu to Wadgaon Shinde, designed to ease traffic congestion on Nagar Road. PMRDA has initiated the land acquisition process for the initial phase, covering three villages and a 5-kilometer stretch, marking a significant step forward in the development of this crucial infrastructure project.
