Service Roads, Land Acquisition to Ease Navale Bridge Traffic Jams

25 Aug 2025

Authorities have finally moved into action to resolve the long-standing traffic chaos at Pune’s Navale Bridge on the busy Pune-Satara Road (NH-48). In a high-level review meeting held on Sunday, officials from PMRDA, NHAI, the district collectorate, and PMC approved key measures including the construction of 12-metre-wide service roads on both sides of the bridge. To make this happen, NHAI has proposed acquiring 7,384 sq m of land over a 615-metre stretch, with the collectorate tasked to complete the process within three months.

Alongside land acquisition, utility shifting has been prioritized. PMRDA will bear the cost of relocating underground electricity cables, while PMC has been directed to shift two major water pipelines within 15 days. Traffic signals will also be installed immediately to regulate vehicular flow. Officials said these steps, once executed, will bring long-awaited relief to thousands of commuters battling daily jams at Navale Bridge.
