PCMC readies Marathi draft DP even as deadline for objections passes
MLAs and MLCs from Pimpri Chinchwad have strongly opposed the reservations listed in the draft Development Plan (DP), demanding its complete cancellation. The issue was even raised in the recently concluded assembly session, with legislators alleging that the DP committee wrongly imposed reservations on several residential properties that already had valid building permissions from the municipal corporation. BJP leaders claimed that at least 850 reservations from the old DP were unnecessarily repeated, and many religious temples were also marked under reservations. Religious groups further objected to the proposed slaughterhouse in Moshi, located just 4 km from the revered Sant temple in Alandi.
Following public outrage, the chief minister announced last month that the slaughterhouse reservation would be withdrawn. Minister of state for urban development assured that the government would ensure no injustice is done when finalising the DP, but added that it would be premature to cancel the draft before conducting hearings on objections. She also said that if the plan is found to be beyond rectification, the chief minister has the authority to scrap it entirely.
