PMC invites citizens to suggest works for 2026–27 budget

02 Aug 2025

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has invited citizens to play a direct role in shaping the 2026–2027 municipal budget by suggesting development works for their local areas between August 1 and September 1, 2025. Residents can submit proposals through their respective ward offices for projects related to roads, sanitation, public amenities, and infrastructure. Depending on the ward, allocations could be up to ₹75 lakh for a single ward, ₹50 lakh for two-member wards, and ₹25 lakh for smaller wards. This citizen-centric budgeting process pioneered by NGO Janwani in 2006 2007 aims to strengthen participatory governance and address grassroots needs, especially in the absence of elected corporators since 2022.
Without corporators to recommend and monitor smaller but crucial civic works like drainage cleaning, streetlight installations, or footpath repairs, citizens are being urged to step in. Civic activists stress that public awareness about this process is still low and called for greater facilitation from PMC to make it more accessible. “This is an opportunity for participative governance,” said PMC commissioner, urging residents to submit their priorities so the civic body can address them in the budget.
