PMC Seeks 15 Govt Land Parcels to Expedite Key Infrastructure Projects

28 Jan 2025

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has requested 15 government land parcels from the state to fast-track several stalled infrastructure projects. These include the 24x7 water supply initiative, road widening in Mundhwa, and developing a playground in Shivaji Nagar. Other key projects awaiting land allocation are the construction of water tanks in Bavdhan and Mahalunge, road works in Kothrud and Ambegaon, riverbank beautification in Sangamwadi, and a railway overbridge in Ghorpadi. A senior PMC official stated that the lack of land availability has delayed these critical developments, and securing the required plots is essential for progress.

The process for acquiring government land involves submitting development proposals to the district collector's office, which then seeks feedback from relevant departments, including the forest department, before assessing and measuring the land. PMC must pay for the land based on government rates, which is estimated at around ₹25 crore for the 15 parcels. The civic body has already secured approval for the procurement in its standing committee and general body meeting, marking a significant step toward advancing these infrastructure projects.
