31 Jan 2025

The Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the district for the next 30 years was presented at the District Planning Committee meeting, outlining a vision for a 276 km metro network and six new BRT corridors. The plan, covering 20,550 square meters, will be executed in three phases at an estimated cost of ₹1,26,489 crore, involving multiple government agencies. Proposals for metro extensions from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi have been sent for central approval. Additionally, a 148 km metro expansion is proposed for routes like District Court to Yevlewadi, University Chowk to Dehu Road, and Kharadi to Khadakwasla, along with another 128 km of metro corridors, including District Court to Alandi and Wakad Chowk to Shewalewadi. The plan also includes a High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) to improve urban connectivity.

To improve bus services, the plan aims to increase PMPML’s ridership from 10% to 60% by expanding its fleet to 11,564 buses, including 1,625 electric buses. A total of 641 km of new bus routes, 18 additional corridors, and 10 new bus terminals have been proposed. Within PMRDA limits, six new BRT corridors will connect key areas, including Ravet to Rajgurunagar, Gawali Matha Chowk to Shewalewadi, and Chandni Chowk to Hinjewadi. The plan focuses on strengthening public transport infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity across the Pune metropolitan region over the next three decades.
