In a move to tackle the rising pothole menace during the monsoon, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a dedicated mobile app, ‘PCMC Pothole Management,’ allowing citizens to report potholes directly from their neighborhoods. By simply uploading geo-tagged photos, residents can help civic engineers pinpoint exact problem spots, which are then assigned to junior engineers for repairs. The civic body has set an eight-day deadline for action, and officials must upload a photo of the completed work to ensure transparency. The app also allows users to track complaint status in real time, while unresolved issues are escalated to senior officers.
In just two days since its launch, the app has already seen 16 complaints filed, signaling active citizen participation. Residents can also continue using the older 'Saarthi' app and helpline to report issues. Meanwhile, in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas, frustrations continue to mount. Citizens say PMC’s complaint system is slow and largely ineffective, despite previous digital initiatives like road helplines and “road ambulances.” With the early monsoon arrival disrupting repair schedules, PMC officials have now been directed to complete road reinstatement works by June 7 to avoid further public inconvenience
