PCMC to Launch GIS-Based Road Survey for Enhanced Maintenance and Accountability

08 Sep 2024

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to launch a comprehensive road survey project in November 2024 to track data related to road repairs, costs, and accountability using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The survey, conducted post-monsoon, will record all road repair activities, holding contractors and engineers responsible for the quality of work. Roads that experience damage within three years will require mandatory repairs by the same contractor at no additional cost. The 1700 km road network in Pimpri-Chinchwad will undergo inspections to prioritise preventive maintenance.

PCMC’s municipal commissioner emphasised that the use of automated technology and GIS-based systems will ensure better road maintenance, budget optimization, and accountability. The city engineer highlighted that this innovative project will offer real-time data on road conditions, enabling more efficient maintenance and timely interventions. The initiative aims to improve urban infrastructure and enhance road safety in the city.
