The Pune Municipal Corporation's road department has initiated resurfacing and concrete work on city roads, but a significant delay in these efforts has resulted in the re-emergence of potholes, a concerning issue as the Ganesh festival approaches. The excavation work conducted by public Ganesh Mandal organizations for pandal set-up has been identified as a key contributor to the worsening road conditions. While the civic body had promised to fill these potholes before the festival, thus far, 7,739 potholes have been addressed, along with repairs to 355 chambers. The continued road excavations have taken a toll on the city's major roads, leading to public criticism.
In response to the deteriorating road conditions, the municipal administration has undertaken a systematic road inspection to identify areas in urgent need of repair, assessing the extent of damage and prioritizing roads for resurfacing. Consequently, a plan has been put in place to conduct extensive repairs across the city, covering 100 kilometers of roads, including the resurfacing of 8.30 kilometers of concrete roads and work on 91 kilometers of asphalt roads. As the city strives to mitigate the impact of potholes and road quality issues ahead of the Ganesh festival, the focus remains on expediting repair efforts and ensuring safer road conditions for the community.
