In the initial phase of maintenance within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, 11 bridges and flyovers have been selected for repairs based on a year-long structural audit of 38 elevated roadways. The audit, conducted by an external agency appointed by the PMC, highlighted the need for repairs such as bearing replacements, socket improvements, and maintenance of expansion joints due to wear and tear resulting from heavy vehicular movement. Despite the necessity for repairs, all 11 structures have been deemed safe for vehicular use. The repairs are estimated to cost a total of Rs 35 crore, with Rs 15 crore allocated for the first phase. These improvements are expected to enhance driving conditions, prevent further deterioration, and improve overall safety for commuters. Suggestions from daily commuters include addressing issues like uneven surfaces and protruding metal strips at certain flyovers, in addition to ensuring proper lighting for safety. The repair works are set to commence within the next two months, following the submission of the audit report, and will be carried out in phases to effectively address the identified concerns.
