Maha Metro has issued a mandatory directive requiring all builders, property owners, and government agencies to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before starting any construction or excavation within 20 meters of a Metro viaduct or tunnel. This safety regulation, rooted in the Metro Railways Act and Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR), covers activities ranging from demolition and redevelopment to borewell drilling and utility cable laying. The move follows a recent incident in the Mandai area, where unauthorized excavation near an underground tunnel caused structural damage and led to a police case filed by the Metro administration.
The authority has made it clear that failure to secure this clearance prior to breaking ground will result in severe legal action and full financial liability for any potential damages. With the Vanaz to Ramwadi (elevated) and PCMC to Swargate (partially underground) lines now covering 33 km across the city, the safety of the structural integrity of these corridors is a top priority. Developers and individuals are instructed to submit their NOC applications to the planning department through the relevant local authority, with detailed procedural guidelines now available on the official Pune Metro website.
