The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to develop a new 9 km road link connecting Khadi Machine Chowk in Kondhwa to Wadki Chowk on the Pune-Saswad road. This strategic project aims to decongest south Pune by providing a dedicated bypass for heavy and commercial vehicles traveling toward Saswad or Solapur road. Following the resolution of long-standing land acquisition hurdles that stalled the Katraj-Kondhwa Road widening, the civic body is now appointing a consulting agency to conduct topographic surveys and property audits along this new alignment.
While the primary Katraj-Kondhwa Road is being expanded to 50 meters, this second link is designed to complement existing infrastructure like the connection to Mantarwadi Chowk. Currently, the surge in vehicular volume at Khadi Machine Chowk has forced many commuters to opt for the Bopdev Ghat route, which residents claim is no longer sufficient for the area's growing traffic demands. The PMC intends to execute the project as part of its regional plan (RP) to ensure long-term traffic stability in the peripheral zones.
