Suncity Karvenagar River Bridge Set to Open by May 26 for Sinhagad Road Relief

19 Apr 2026

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has officially initiated plans to construct a new bridge parallel to the Rajaram Bridge, aimed at decongesting the heavy traffic flow between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar. On April 16, 2026, the civic body issued a tender to appoint a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for pre-feasibility activities, including widening the existing connection to 30 meters as per the Development Plan (DP). Preliminary designs suggest the additional wing will be built on the Swargate-facing side of the current bridge, which recently underwent structural strengthening and expansion at both ends to facilitate easier turns for vehicles.

While two flyovers operationalized in 2025 have improved longitudinal flow on Sinhagad Road, Rajaram Bridge remains a significant bottleneck for lateral transit. Residents have long complained about the lack of alternatives, forcing all western-bound traffic onto this single link. However, there is imminent relief on the horizon: the Suncity–Karvenagar River Bridge is in its final phase of construction. PMC officials have confirmed that this new bridge, which includes nine spans across 279 meters, has a firm pre-monsoon deadline and is expected to be open to the public by May 26, 2026.
