PMC Defers Funding for Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon Flyover Project

28 Mar 2026

he Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee has deferred the funding decision for the critical flyover connecting Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon. While the project has received "in-principle" approval, the civic body is conducting a detailed financial analysis to balance its long-term liabilities against the ₹67.85 crore required for the first phase. This phase is designed to include a grade separator at the PVPIT College junction alongside essential service roads and main carriageway improvements. Officials noted that the delay is temporary, as the committee seeks more granular data before committing to the full scale of the Western corridor's transformation.

The urgency of this project stems from the rapid urbanization of the area, with the local population projected to reach 3 lakh in the coming years. The proposed plan involves a massive widening of the existing road from its current 10.3 meters to a 60-meter-wide arterial link. This corridor is viewed as a vital bypass for commuters heading toward the Hinjawadi IT Park, the Mumbai–Goa Highway, and the upcoming PMRDA Ring Road. By addressing the current bottlenecks in a phased manner, the PMC aims to provide a sustainable solution for the sharply rising traffic density that has plagued this section of the city’s western periphery.
