TDR Push to Clear Final 200 Metre Bottleneck on Vital Baner Pashan Link

17 Apr 2026

Construction on the long-delayed Baner-Pashan Link Road (BPLR) is set to resume within a month after a high-level intervention by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Despite being part of the city’s development plan since 1992, a critical 200-metre bottleneck near Jayshree Stores and Kumar Sahavas Society has stalled the project for decades. To resolve the final land acquisition hurdles, the PMC is moving away from direct cash compensation having already spent ₹25 crore and is instead fast-tracking the allocation of Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to the remaining landowners.

The breakthrough comes amidst mounting legal pressure from the BPLR Welfare Trust, which filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and a subsequent contempt of court case against the PMC for missing multiple judicial deadlines. While the civic body has now appointed a contractor and deposited funds with the district collector to secure the land, residents remain cautious, citing 33 years of "hollow promises." Once the 1.2-km road is fully operational, it is expected to provide essential connectivity and massive traffic relief for over 2.5 lakh residents across the Baner, Pashan, Balewadi, and Aundh suburbs.
