Dhayari and Narhe Residents to Get Improved Water Supply Under New Global Funding

21 Apr 2026

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has officially set the wheels in motion for a massive water supply overhaul across 12 newly merged villages, primarily along the city's southern periphery. On April 13, 2026, the civic body issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint a specialized consultant to conduct an Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). This study is a critical prerequisite for securing a ₹1,400 crore funding package from the World Bank. The assessment will specifically address challenges related to forest and private land acquisition in villages such as Dhayari, Narhe, Nanded, and Khadakwasla, ensuring the project meets both national regulations and international benchmarks like International Finance Corporation (IFC) standards.

The ambitious project is designed to handle the rapid urbanization of Pune’s expanding 510-square-kilometer jurisdiction. It includes the construction of a 200 MLD water treatment plant, a 100 MLD pumping system, and a massive 288 km distribution network supported by 52 service reservoirs. While work in other merged villages is already being funded by state and local budgets, this World Bank-supported phase aims to provide reliable and equitable water access to residents who have long struggled with infrastructure gaps. The consultant selection process, based on quality and cost, is expected to conclude shortly, with the final impact report due within two and a half months of appointment.
