By May 10, 2026, residents of Mohammadwadi will finally see water flowing directly to their home taps, ending years of total dependence on private water tankers. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has successfully completed a critical 19 km transmission line that now connects the Vadgaon water works to three major overhead tanks (ESRs) located near a prominent mall and international school. Water officially reached these reservoirs on May 1, and the civic body is currently conducting "flushing and washing" trials of the distribution network to ensure clean delivery.
This project is a cornerstone of the Equitable Water Supply Scheme, designed to benefit nearly four lakh residents across Mohammadwadi, Undri, NIBM Road, and parts of Kondhwa. To achieve this, the PMC overcame significant technical hurdles, including using the "jack and push" method to lay pipes beneath existing houses on Katraj-Kondhwa Road. While the first three tanks are set to go live this week, work on the final 4 km of the transmission line is being expedited to commission five additional overhead tanks, aiming for full operational capacity by June 2026.
