Major PMRDA Road Projects Face Delay as Election Code Kicks In Pune’s ₹900 Crore Plans on Hold.

02 Nov 2025

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is likely to face delays in allocating funds for new road projects, as the model code of conduct for the upcoming local body elections is expected to come into effect soon. Approvals for major infrastructure projects will be processed only after the elections. PMRDA had planned to clear proposals worth nearly ₹900 crore for constructing 248 kilometers of new roads across the Pune Metropolitan Region, including key stretches in Hinjewadi and Chakan. These areas face daily traffic congestion, and officials are trying to hold a meeting of the executive committee, chaired by the state finance secretary, before the election code begins.

Tenders worth ₹628 crore for road works in nine talukas including ₹75 crore for the Dehu Yelwadi stretch and ₹45 crore for the Hinjewadi road  are ready for approval, while tenders for seven new roads in the Chakan industrial zone, worth over ₹100 crore, are nearing completion. If the code of conduct is enforced before the committee meeting, these projects will be pushed to the post-election phase, possibly by January 2026. Fund release could extend to mid-November depending on approvals, and only under special conditions like natural calamities can funds be disbursed during the election code period.
