PMRDA Plans Six Priority Roads Around Hinjewadi to End Monsoon Waterlogging and Peak Hour Traffic Chaos
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority PMRDA is planning six priority roads in and around the Hinjewadi industrial area to ease severe traffic congestion improve connectivity and address long standing drainage problems that cause widespread waterlogging during the monsoon season. The six identified stretches are Surya Hospital to Thakar Vasti at 3.74 km Surya Hospital to Sakhare Vasti in Hinjewadi Phase 1 at 1.30 km Marunji to Shani Mandir at 3.5 km Nande to Maan at 1.8 km Marunji to Shani Mandir in Wakad at 3.5 km and Thakar Vasti to Maan at 3 km. Road widths range from 18 to 36 metres and PMRDA has decided to appoint a consultant to prepare a detailed project report covering road design traffic and pedestrian requirements topographical and utility surveys geotechnical investigations stormwater drainage sewerage water supply electricity street lighting footpaths kerbs medians and road signage. Bid submission deadline is July 24 with opening scheduled for July 27.
The Hinjewadi Maan Marunji belt has seen rapid residential and commercial growth in recent years with thousands of IT employees and residents using these roads daily and traffic becoming severely congested during peak hours and virtually paralysed during monsoon waterlogging. PMRDA chief engineer confirmed that road widening junction improvements and comprehensive utility infrastructure would be covered under the project and that once completed the new roads would provide crucial alternate connectivity reducing pressure on existing routes. The focus on integrated stormwater drainage and utility planning signals a more holistic approach than previous piecemeal interventions and could finally provide the Hinjewadi belt with the resilient road infrastructure needed to support its status as one of India's most prominent technology and residential growth corridors.
