NHAI Identifies Eight Traffic Bottlenecks on Pune Highways and Plans Coordinated Fix With Police and Civic Bodies
The National Highways Authority of India NHAI Pune has identified eight critical traffic bottlenecks on national highways in and around the city and is preparing a coordinated action plan with traffic police and local civic bodies to provide relief to commuters battered by monsoon congestion. Major hotspots identified include Navale Bridge Chowk Wakad Chowk Ahmednagar Road Highway Satara Road Highway and Solapur Road Highway after Hadapsar among others. Senior officials from NHAI Pune traffic police PMC PCMC and other departments have begun location specific discussions with short term measures including improved traffic regulation during peak hours deployment of additional personnel removal of encroachments better lane discipline through road markings signal synchronisation and quicker response during rain emergencies. Detailed traffic studies covering volume road geometry and future growth projections are being carried out at each location.
Long term plans include widening carriageways at critical stretches constructing additional service and slip roads redesigning busy intersections strengthening drainage systems and improving highway entry and exit points based on engineering studies. NHAI also plans periodic traffic assessments to address congestion proactively rather than reactively. Regular commuters welcomed the acknowledgement but urged swift execution saying congestion at Navale Bridge and Wakad brings traffic to a complete standstill after even moderate rainfall while the Solapur Road stretch after Hadapsar witnesses long evening queues that worsen dramatically during the monsoon. Commuters said they hoped this time authorities would follow through with concrete action rather than temporary arrangements that fail to deliver lasting relief on some of Pune's most chronically congested highway corridors.
