Residents of the Kothrud Depot area on Paud Road have hit the pause button on the upcoming Metro extension, launching a formal protest against the current design of a proposed station and a double-decker flyover. While the Maha Metro has begun preliminary work on the Vanaz to Chandni Chowk stretch, over 400 locals have joined a signature campaign, fearing that the project as currently planned will worsen traffic chaos rather than solve it.
The primary point of contention is the landing point of the flyover ramps. Residents argue that landing the flyover at Kothrud Depot will create massive bottlenecks on an already congested stretch. They are demanding that the flyover be extended further to Bhusari Colony to ensure a smoother traffic flow. Additionally, there are rising concerns about the "shrinking" of footpaths once the Metro station's entry and exit points are constructed. In response to the mounting pressure, Maha Metro has announced a "Metro Samwad" program to directly address these design doubts with the community.
