Pune Municipal Corporation PMC has accelerated work on the Sun City to Karvenagar flyover on Sinhagad Road aiming to open the structure within two and a half months before Maha Metro begins construction of the Khadakwasla to Kharadi Metro corridor along the same stretch. The project which began nearly two years ago is approximately 80 percent complete and PMC Project Department head has ordered daily progress reviews to ensure timely completion. PMC has also initiated land acquisition for approach roads on both sides of the flyover. Once open vehicles from Ganga Bhagyodaya Chowk will directly access Karvenagar and Karve Road eliminating a three kilometre detour and significantly reducing travel time for commuters from Dhayari Nanded City and adjoining areas who currently battle severe congestion on this corridor.
However residents have warned that opening the flyover without completing connecting roads in Karvenagar could simply shift congestion from Sinhagad Road to Karvenagar. Land acquisition for roads connecting to Karve Road and the Development Plan Road along Shivane to Kharadi Road remains incomplete in several stretches and residents have demanded PMC complete link roads before the flyover becomes operational. Locals have also urged Maha Metro to defer Metro construction until the flyover opens to maintain smooth traffic movement on the already congested corridor. PMC's Road Department and City Engineer's Office have initiated acquisition of remaining land parcels to ensure the connecting road network is ready before the flyover opens.
